“We loved our chic and sophisticated accommodations at Palazzo Avino, which was only a few steps away from the quaint village center. Each afternoon we would visit the grocer for a small package of fresh salami and cheese to take with us back to our room for an afternoon snack before dinner. Finding ourselves without any euros one day, that kind grocer even sent us off with our goods and simply asked that we come back the next day with payment! I didn’t know that kind of doing business even existed anymore! But it does in Ravello, like something out of a favorite novel or movie. Speaking of something out of a movie, our last evening included a romantic dinner at Villa Maria’s and our own private concert back at Palazzo Avino. As the pianist sang “Have I Told You Lately” and we danced, I couldn’t help but shed a tear thinking of just how blessed Dane and I have been to have found each other, and to have started our marriage in the most perfect fashion, on the Amalfi Coast. Ok, I was a little sad to be going home the next day too ;)”
In one of the most charming secluded places in France, lies La Bastide de Marie. Beautifully situated among a 37 acre vineyard, La Bastide de Marie provides pools, a spa, and an excellent staff to go with their gorgeous Provence sunset. Go wine tasting or explore the surrounding areas of Menerbes and Bonnieux on bikes provided by the hotel. It is a paradise among the countryside that you will never want to leave!
Warm and welcoming, La Bastide de Marie provides effortless luxury. You will immediately feel right at home!
Dine in one of their many romantic locations with a perfect vineyard view as a backdrop.
With one of my best friends (Summer from Grey Likes Weddings) getting married this week at the beautiful Sunstone Winery, I can’t help but have vineyards on the brain! Today I want to share two of my favorite French getaways for those looking for a romantic, wine country, escape post-wedding!
The Les Sources de Caudalie is in the rural part of France and has everything from a full-service health spa to golf driving-range on site! You can rent bikes to explore the grounds or stay on the property and enjoy the outdoor tennis courts and swimming pools. Everywhere you look seems like you’re in a postcard so definitely don’t forget a camera!
The Chateau de la Barre is filled to the brim with incredible antiques, art, history, and beauty. If you’re wanting a honeymoon that is filled with both relaxation and adventure, then you definitely want to check this place out! It’s less than 2 hours from the buzzing city of Paris but is still a unique, historical chateau with luxurious rooms and a breathtaking property.
And in both these places, of course, is some of the best French wine! So get your toasting glasses and passports ready!
Relax in your own private pool in an Elounda Gulf luxury villa. This hotel is located on Crete Island in Greece, overlooking the Elounda beach. I had the pleasure of planning a much deserved trip for the talented wedding photographer Ala Cortez and her husband to Greece and Italy. They hopped between Greece and Italy, and enjoyed all of the charm of Santorini, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and Rome. You can see all their photos and read the full post on her blog, but I’ve included a beautifully written excerpt from Ala that highlights how the smallest experiences make the biggest and most lasting impacts.
It was things like driving a manual transmission car, in the rain, on foreign windy roads as we made our way to San Gimignano, Italy. Sitting on the steps of the Collegiata in the Piazza del Duomo, huddled around a cup of the best pistachio gelato in the world, watching the amateur orchestra perform. Tear-filled life talks over beers in Florence. Biking along the walls surrounding Lucca, overlooking the charming city. Walking into a tiny Sorrento storefront and letting a man who spoke no english whatsoever make sandals for me with his own two hands. Or my favorite day, renting a boat in Capri driving around the entire island stopping for a swim in the Grotta Verde, parking our boat to share lunch and a bottle of prosecco and finally, driving through the Faraglioni. What a glorious day! – Ala Cortez
Thanks so much Ala for sharing your adventures! It’s always good to take a trip to explore the world and enjoy one another. I love creating getaways for couples and I look forward to making a custom itinerary that suits your exact style. Let’s start planning!
